Abstract: Compound pearl protein polypeptide (CPPP) was investigated by MTT method as well as detecting alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and mineralized nodes in osteoblasts from SD rats. In vivo the rat models of osteoporosis were induced by ovariectomy and treated with three doses of CPPP (5.0mg.kg-1.d-1, 20.0mg.kg-1.d-1, and 80.0mg.kg-1.d-1). The serum levels of estradiol (E2), osteocalcin (BGP), transforming growth factors (TGF-β1) and ALK, together with the bone mineral density (BMD) and the contents of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) in 24h urine, were detected. The results show that CPPP can enhance cell proliferation, ALK activity and the number of mineralized nodes in rats osteoblasts. CPPP significantly increase the serum level of E2, TGF-β1, and BMD, and decrease the serum level of ALP, BGP and the contents of Ca, P in 24h urine. So, CPPP can increase bone density, and thus it is conductive to osteoporosis prevention and treatment of the elderly.

Abstract: In this paper, the work was mainly studying influence of pH on Fenton reaction and gingerol scavenging hydroxyl radical. The antioxidant activity of gingerol was characterized by the scavenging hydroxyl ratio and scavenging hydroxyl ratio was analyzed by the spectrophotometry. Hydroxyl radical was produced by Fenton reaction. In the experiment pH and buffer solution have influence on the scavenging hydroxyl radical and Fenton reaction. Gingerol exhibits a strong scavenging radical activity for hydroxyl radical (OH.). The scavenging hydroxyl radical of different extractions of ginger oleoresin is different.

Abstract: In China, many kinds of natural products extracted from plant and animal were used to treat cancer. Flavonoids extracted from tartary buckwheat and skin peptide purified from rufous-spotted torrent frog had respectively been proved to have anti-tumor activity. In present study, both tartary buckwheat flavonoids and amphibian frog peptides were applied for cell proliferation inhibitory activity against human gastric cancer MGC 80-3 cells using MTT assay. According to the data, the buckwheat flavonoids exhibited much stronger anti-tumor activity than amphibian peptides, and the complex mixture of this two kinds of bioactive compounds still possess anti-tumor activity.

Abstract: Six known compounds were isolated from fermentation broth extract of the marine Streptomycete sp. S15. Their structures were identified to be cyclo-(L-Pro-L-Ser) (1), tryptophan (2), cyclo-(Ala-4-OH-Pro)(3),Linoleic acid (4), anthranilic acid (5) and N-[2-(4-hydroxy-phenyl) ethyacetamide (6) by spectral methods. The brine shrimp bioassay showed the mortality rates of Arbutin to brine shrimp are 75.8% at a concentration of 10μg/mL, indicating Arbutin possessed significant toxicity on brine shrimp.

Abstract: The objective of the study was to optimize the conditions in a culture medium for the selenium yeild enriched by Saccharomyces sp. III using Plackett-Burman design and Box-Behnken design. The Plackett-Burman multifactorial design was first employed to screen the significant factors in the fermentation for the selenium yeild, and subsequent use of the response surface methodology was further optimized for the selenium yeild by Box-Behnken design. The important factors in the culture medium, identified by the initial screening method of Placket-Burman, were sodium selenite, glucose and the liquid volume. The optimal amounts for maximum selenium yeild were: sodium selenite 15.8 mg/L; glucose 40.2 g/L; the liquid volume 120 mL in 250 mL flask. Using this statistical experimental design, the selenium yeild under optimal condition reached about 1679.32 μg selenium /g dry cell.

Abstract: The cellulolytic enzymes from Penicillium genus showed well-balanced amounts of cellobiohydrolase, endo-cellulase and β-glycosidase. The Fermentation condition of Penicillium purpurogenum HBZ003 from Mangrove for 1,4-β-D-cellobiohydrolase activity was investigated. The optimum fermentation condition of Penicillium purpurogenum HBZ003 was as follows. The medium was composed of 1.6% bran, 0.4% CMC, 0.5% (NH4)2SO4, 0.4% KNO3, 0.6%NaCl, 0.03% CaCl2 and 0.05% Tween 60, and adjusted to initial pH 4.0, and inoculated with 10% seed and cultivated at 160 r/min and 30 °C for 5d. The 1,4-β-D-cellobiohydrolase activity reached 5.54 U with the ratio of 1,4-β-D-cellobiohydrolase, endo-cellulase and β-glycosidase activity being 1:3.26:5.09.

Abstract: Relative to the pharmacopoeia of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), establishing detection of puerarin in radix puerariae micellar electro kinetic chromatography (MEKC). Studying on buffer pH, borax concentration, separation voltage, SDS concentration of chromatographic conditions on the puerarin MEKC separation effect of influence, determined the best capillary electrophoresis conditions: test 250 nm wavelength, buffer of pH 9.0 0.1M KH2PO4 solution-20 mM borax solution, separation voltage 18 kV, 40 mmol/L SDS concentration, 4.5 min retention time., grained puerarin MEKC standard equation: Y=36.522X-471.9, R2=0.9994(N=5), the puerarin concentration in 550 μg/mL to 750 μg/mL range comes out a good relationship. Get the lowest detection limit with 13.74 μg/mL. Puerarin content of the total isoflavone detected by MEKC was 45.35% that similar to 42.25% detected by HPLC. The method was stable, accurate, sensitive, possessed organic solvent consumption. The research results have applications in puerarin and its product quality evaluation system and promote isoflavonoids detection.

Abstract: The UV-Vis absorption spectrum of kaempferol and DPPH was investigated, the optimum determination wavelength and reaction time for determining the DPPH radical scavenging activity of kaempferol was 517 nm and 30 min, respectively. Kaempferol exhibited strong DPPH radical scavenging activity with a IC50 value of 0.004349 mg·mL-1, which is smaller than that of rutin, indicating that kaempferol has a stronger antioxidant activity than rutin.

Abstract: Effects of antibiotics addition on the mycelia growth and production of exo-polysaccharides (EPS) and triterpenoids in the submerged culture of Ganoderma Lucidum were studied. It was proved that adding amphotericin and terbinafine in favor of improving the excreting of EPS and triterpenoids, especially amphotericin can obviously improve the production of EPS and triterpenoids of Ganoderma lucidum. The results showed that when a level of 10 μg/mL amphotericin was added after 72 h culture, the EPS and triterpenoids reached a maximum of 3.2 g/L and 1.5 g/L, that was 1.45-fold and 1.36-fold compared to that of control, and the biomass of Ganoderma lucidum reduced to 9.85 g/L, that was 88% compared to that of control.

Endosymbiotic Association between Methanogens and Hydrogen-Producing Organisms - Hydrogen Hypothesis
Abstract: Many archaebacteria are strictly dependent upon H2 for their ATP production. Moreover, for many methanogens (the strictly lithoautotrophic forms), H2O, CO2 and acetate are the sole source of both energy and carbon, all of which are waste products of the symbionts anaerobic metabolism. The fact that methanogens associate with hydrogen-producing organisms means endosymbiotic methanogens cling not to free-living eubacteria, but hydrogenosomes themselves in the cytosol of amitochondriate protists. This has given rise to the theory that the eukaryotic cell originated from syntrophic interactions between bacteria and archaea. We call this new hypothesis for the origin of eukaryotic cells as hydrogen hypothesis.
