Abstract: The objective of this work is to develop thermal simulation software of the honing
process applied to metallic cylinders. The proposed thermal model is based on the action of heat
impulses generated by the abrasive bars that are in contact with the cylinder internal surface. A onedimensional
heat diffusion equation, with variable properties and solved by the finite difference
method, is the fundamental part of the mathematical model. The model is implemented in friendly
software, which allows to study, for example, the influence of the convective cooling effect on the
temperature range in the internal cylinder wall, as well as the dependence of the temperature of nonlinear
thermal properties. The software outputs are the temperature distributions in space and time,
which are represented on automatically generated graphs. It has been possible to verify the correct
operation of the simulator contrasting it with experimental data.
