Abstract: Materials selection for green manufacturing is a complicated system engineering. Materials selection for green manufacturing is a sort of fire-new idea compared with traditional materials selection. The influence of materials to outer environment was studied. The method of materials selection for green manufacturing, integration of technical, economic and environmental principle was put forward. Its supporting technologies were researched that include database and knowledge base of green materials and environmental influence evaluation system based on green materials life cycle. The constraint conditions, model and process of multi-objective decision-making of materials selection for green manufacturing were built so as to provide theoretic and technical support for materials selection.

Abstract: A method based on the linear quadtree is proposed to sort the discrete data of the section contour. Firstly the contour data are distributed to different nodes of the linear quadtree and the data in the same node are sorted. Then neighbor node search regulations are established to help sort data in different nodes counter-clockwise. Experiment shows that the presented method can sort the data effectively.

Abstract: Reverse engineering is an important tool to generate CAD models. This paper describes an integrated approach for modeling parts from point cloud to surfaces or solids based on features and constraints. The approach allows designers to integrate reverse engineering and feature-based CAD system in the reconstruction of parts. This approach has two advantages over current practice and the reconstructed models produced by this method are feature-based and constraints satisfaction, which provides a higher level description of part geometry rather than the tedious low-level editing of geometric descriptions as in reverse engineering. This method also facilitates modification and innovative design to the reconstructed parts, which would be extremely difficult or impossible to accomplish if current reverse engineering method is applied. In addition, it is a more convenient and practical way for designers. To illustrate the validation of this integrated modeling approach, a more complicated example is illustrated based on the approach.

Abstract: In this paper, we obtain point cloud data on vortex disk surface of the scroll compressor with ATOS three-dimensional optical measuring instrument and complete the reconstruction of three-dimensional solid model in the CATIA software environment, by the reverse engineering technology, the problem can be solved for part of unmeasured surface. The final error analysis is done for the three-dimensional model. It shows that we should have a well-planning and adopt the reasonable methods both for measurement and data processing to facilitate surface reconstruction of the complex object and the precision of modeling. The problem unmeasured is solved by both of the data from multiple view and data substitution. We can use local surface data to substitute the most of surface data which is not available to make complex surface reconstruction for scanning and modeling of small object with deep slot.

Abstract: The digital measurements of the back cover of a telephone receiver were carried out by a three dimensional measuring machine and the data point clouds of the contours were got. Using reverse engineering software, Imageware, the data point clouds were processed, including of data smoothing, data reducing, data point clouds resample, feature lines extracting and curve fitting. Based on the shape features of the research object, the 3D model of the back cover of the telephone receiver were reconstructed with the boundary curves and the scanning data point groups successfully. Precision evaluation was carried out to the 3D model and the error controlled within 0.2mm.

Abstract: In this article, based on the research of point cloud acquisition, data preprocessing and surface refactoring of reverse engineering, we analyzed the function and process of the reversing software—IMAGEWARE so as to provide reverse engineering design methods to reversing style design of curved surface refactoring and re-design of products.

Abstract: 3D laser scanning is one of the key technologies of reverse engineering. Digital point cloud is produced by the rapid scanning technology. Some technology about reverse engineering is introduced in this thesis. The curved surface can be generated by the point cloud processing, when the point cloud can be processed by the software called Geomagic Studio.

Abstract: In this paper a step segmentation method for conventional engineering parts which usually comprise by simple analytic surfaces and are important investigation objects of reverse engineering is proposed. In the first segmentation fourteen directions are chosen initially, and a k-mean algorithm according to the normal vectors is used, then the surface is divided to form patches by a region-growing scheme. In order to identify simple analytic surface, curvedness of a patch is set as the criterion by which the surface merged into near constant curvedness region. Especially a novel mean shift algorithm is adopted in this method, that a powerful technique for clustering in image process, and is extended to normal filtering while preserving the features to increase robustness of the method. Experimental evaluations using scan data or noise data demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract: The Reverse Engineering Technology (RET) is extensively employed in the realm of product designing. In this paper, a Three-coordinate Measuring Machine is utilized first to measure the data points of the rearview mirror of a motorcycle, then under UG modeling environment, surface reconstruction is conducted, and lastly procedures like mold splitting and mold core machining are finished upon exercising the Moldwizard Module of UG software. In short, the application of the RET greatly shortened the period of product designing and manufacturing.
