Abstract: Urbanization is a major factor that shapes the pattern of urban area of cities and exerts influence on cities’ development. The pattern of urban expansion and sprawl is considered as the main feature for evaluating the development of a city, which can dramatically reflect the path of urbanization and largely influence the potential of sustainability of a city. The objectives of this study were to introduce a sustainable development indicator - compact coefficient of urban area (CCUA), specially designed for evaluating the sustainability of a city in spatial dimension, and reveal the impact of urbanization on the sustainability of a city through comparing the trend of urbanization rate of a city with its changes of CCUA. A case study has been taken in Yantai, a medium-sized city in east part of China. Remote sensing was used for mapping the land use/land cover changes of urban area in Yantai from 1990 to 2010 by using the medium-resolution satellite imagery. Then, five indexes of ecological landscape were selected and processed, and CCUA of Yantai was calculated. Results of this study indicate that CCUA is an efficient indicator for measuring the sustainability of the pattern of urban expansion, which can assist the urban planning process of professionals and facilitate the decision-making process of local government.

Abstract: As socio-economic is developing rapidly, the problems between water resource supply and demand is prominent. Small inter-basin water transfer is gradually increasing in order to solve water shortage. In this paper, the development position of regional socio-economic, the potential of water resources, water supply and demand balance are discussed, the necessity of inter-basin transfers project is studied and discussed comprehensively, the conclusion is authentic, and the method of this paper has reference for similar project.

Abstract: Coal mining area ecology industrial chain (nets) is an industry networked economic organization based on the mode of circular economy; industries and environment are related through energy flow to form a "nutrition" relationship between the mining industries. Through the optimized analysis of mine area eco-industry, when surplus scale of the active industry unit exceed absorption scale the passive industry unit, passive industry unit scale enlarge and the excess material are disposed outside the industry chain (nets); otherwise, it should reduce the passive industry unit scale or obtain the surplusage from the outside of industry chain (nets); When both of them are equal, the industry units of mining area eco-industrial chain (nets) are in coordination state. Coal mining area circular economy has three practical modes: ecotype coal circular economy unit, ecotype coal circular economy park and ecotype coal circular economy city.

Abstract: This paper targets to improve understanding and explain influential factors of different planning and implementing process of two eco-cities, Hammarby Sjöstad, Sweden, and Sino-Swedish Low-carbon Eco-city, China. The study is approached by examining and comparing the two eco-cities in perspectives of plans formulation, policy and regulations foundation, planning management and implementing mechanisms. Lessons from Hammarby Sjöstad are that integrative planning and management, follow-up and evaluations of implementing results, and lifestyle transitions all need to be concerned, as well as environmental technologies. In Sino-Swedish low-carbon eco-city, lack of local technologies, supporting policies and regulations, inactive cross-sector cooperation and public participation are summarized as main obstacles. To approach these, efforts are made on formulating local regulations, government documents, and coordinating cross-sector cooperation, promoting mutual learning. Finally, concluding that, besides environmental technologies, the foundation of legislations, policies and environmental objectives, integrative approaches, public awareness are key areas need to be promoted for popularizing sustainability in China.

Abstract: Scholars pay close attention to regional innovation system research in resource-based cities. The thesis analysis linked research results which are resource-based cities transform and regional innovation system from two aspects, resource-based cities transform and sustainable development, and presents major research trend and shortage in this field.

Abstract: Based on the requirements of smart transportation logistics information technology development strategy, this paper proposed planning strategies and designing methods of a integrated transportation and logistics information platform, as well as a specific information platform system architecture and functional model. The technology paths and methods of the functional components of this information platform were also discussed comprehensively.

Abstract: Urban spatial form has recorded the history of city development, and also reflected the variations of urban spatial form characteristics. The thorough research and think on the influence factors of urban spatial form and pattern may help us understand the historical background of cities development and forecast the future development of urban space better. In this article, the reasons and influence factors of Chengdu, such as water system, special road system, functional lands and a whole-new model of coordinating urban-rural development, were discussed. We tried to find a way to control the out-of-order sprawl of urban development in Chengdu and promote the urban development towards a more sustainable direction.

Abstract: Create a good city environment is an eternal theme of human development. The urbanization has brought not only economic and social development, but also urban sprawl and environmental damage, which make the city become a tool to complete various functions and no longer suitable for residents to live. A strange phenomenon appears that the more development of the city, the lower residents’ satisfaction to the urban environment. This article argues that meeting the needs of the people is the true meaning of urban development, and discusses the needs of the residents to the urban environment.

Abstract: Road ecology is a science to study the interactions among traffic roads, vehicles and natural environments around it. It combines human-vehicles-road, man-made system and ecological environment, is an interdisciplinary branch of ecological science, earth science and engineering science. In this paper, based on the comprehensive analysis on the research literatures related with road ecology, we summarizes the research theories and methods, scale and content of road ecology, formulates the research framework for road ecology, then discusses the road ecology development planning in China in the future from research range, long-term and located observation, application of information technology, policy measures, experiment and demonstration, etc.

Abstract: There are two modes of eco-city construction: rebuilding new cities and reforming present cities. The international eco-city theory and practice of both modes are summarized according to their theoretical background, practice cases, and limitations. After introducing the cases of rebuilding and reforming eco-cities in China, the authors discuss the problem of Chinese reference to the international experience, including the restriction in use and the rejection of some goals. Finally, the authors propose corresponding advices and analyze the general process in choosing the proper modes to build Chinese eco-cities.
