Description: During the past twenty years, digital design and manufacturing technology has become indispensable in many and various applications world-wide; involving many products and rapidly expanding markets. It has not only provided industry with new methods, tools and digitalized products - from design, materials processing to operating and management procedures - but is also changing the approaches, thinking patterns and working environments of people in the manufacturing field.
The rapid growth of digital design and manufacturing processes has also brought with it some processing work-flow challenges. While the various resultant products provide an ideal solution for some processing steps, more dedicated and integrated systems are sometimes required. How best can one handle incoming data and orders, automate the design and perhaps engineering, make robust plans, manage the process and data and deliver quality goods.

Description: The theme of this special collection of peer-reviewed papers is the preparation and application of High-Performance Mineral-based Powders (HQMP). Here, HQMP refers to powder prepared from natural minerals with high specifications. It is predicted that the area of application of HQMP will become increasingly extensive. The future development of HQMP lies in the further exploitation and improvement of the manufacturing and production technologies of HQMP-orientated towards markets, and this collection will provide a handy roadmap for these likely developments.

Description: Polymers make up one of the three main raw material groups used in the modern world, together with metals and inorganic non-metallics. They are widely used in all fields of economic development and scientific & technological innovation, and continue to play an increasingly important role. As China’s modern manufacturing forges ahead, going from a large producing country to a powerful manufacturing state, the extent of the knowledge, the tendency to innovation and the technical skill brought to bear on advanced polymer processing increase daily. There is a trend towards rapid development involving high performance and environmental-friendliness, backed up by lots of new research performed by the scientific and engineering communities.

Description: Advanced Materials and Processing are important areas of research in Engineering Science and Technology, and require a critical focus on bridging the gap between researchers and engineers. Advanced materials and processing play an increasingly important role in the global economy and in daily life. Researchers and engineers strive to develop new devices and processes, using mathematical and analytical tools to create technologies to handle the rapidly expanding range of materials and manufacturing processes. The Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies conference series creates a stimulating environment for the research collaboration of scholars at the local, national and international levels, contributes to the collective development of a knowledge-based society and economy.

Description: With the rapid development of science and technology, the functionalization of structural materials, and the structurization of functional materials are attracting increasing attention in the scientific and engineering fields. The development of multi-functional materials and structures (MFMS), at the micro- and nano-scale levels, has grown rapidly due to the requirement of increasing safety margins for all infrastructure, biomedical and engineering elements. Multi-functional material systems are capable of performing multiple “primary” functions, simultaneously or sequentially in time, and are specially designed to improve system performance via a reduction in the redundancy between sub-system materials and functions.
