Abstract: An airborne survey was conducted to produce land cover/use maps. The feasibility of using a conventional digital camcorder to acquire remotely sensed data was investigated, and the imagery for land cover mapping using remote sensing technique was evaluated. The study area was the Universiti Sains Malaysia campus, Penang, located in Peninsular Malaysia. Digital images were taken from a low-attitude light aircraft, Cessna 172Q, at an average altitude of 2.4384 km above sea level. The use of a digital camcorder as a sensor to capture digital images is more economical compared with other airborne sensors. This technique is designed to overcome the problem of obtaining cloud-free photographs from a satellite platform in equatorial regions. Digital video imageries were taken in the red, green, and blue bands. A comparison between frequency-based contextual and neural network classification techniques for analyzing digital camcorder imagery is presented. Frequency-based contextual and neural network classification techniques were applied to the digital camera spectral bands (red, green, and blue) to extract the thematic information from the acquired scenes. The classified map was compared with the ground truth data, and accuracy was evaluated by an error matrix. Results indicate that a conventional digital camcorder can be used to acquire digital imageries for land cover/use mapping of a small area of coverage.

Abstract: Occurrence of frequency of earthquakes around the world has been increased including Sendai earthquake in Japan and magnitude of earthquake has also increased. Recently, many tall buildings using local seismic codes can be exposed to the risk of an earthquake and wind. Also, some buildings, which was planned to be built, were foundered as a result of lack of finance. Therefore, for tall buildings, structural safety such as earthquake and wind resistant performance, and financing issue are very important to progress the huge project. So we need to find another optimum alternative other than damping devices and base isolation system. In this study, four types of test specimens are used, which are fifty-story base tall building, tall building that was reinforced with diagonal brace, x-brace, and Chevron brace. And all of these cases, are subjected to the seismic load and wind load, finally analyzed and compared for seismic and wind performances.

Abstract: Iran is recognized as one of the largest fossil fuel reserve resources in the world, but it is also suffering from mismanaged consumption. The consequences of this mismanagement have been considered in Iran during recent years and authorities have raised concerns about it. Identification of the optimized orientation and tilt angle for roofs in BandarAbbas -South of Iran- in order to achieve the maximum daytime ray gain by photovoltaic cells is the main purpose of this paper. This paper makes a comparison in three types of facade angles in BandarAbbas (90 °, 80 ° and 70 °). The results show that 70 ° facade is the most efficient wall in order to gain energy in BandarAbbas.

Abstract: Heat from solar radiation contributes to the high energy usage in the tropical climate regions. Extensive green roofs are well known efficient tools for heat insulation. This study designs a module system that is easy to implement and requires low maintenance for the extensive green roofs. The module system combined planting substrates and plants within a planting container which achieves the objectives, namely, light weight, easy shipping, good drainage, UV resistance, high water retention, and air permeability.

Abstract: A reservoir in the Jurassic natural water drive development of sandstone reservoirs, reservoir rock sandstone and siltstone and fine particle size, carbonatites cement content less, does not affect the reservoir properties. A reservoir average porosity of 18% and average permeability of 45 × 10-3μm2, belongs in porosity and low permeability reservoir, and the reservoir was not continuous development, strong heterogeneity. A reservoir development characteristics, application of water flooding curve and the related empirical formula A reservoir water flooding sweep efficiency.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate consumer lifestyles and preferences for sofa leather through Literature Review, Focus Group Interview and Experts Interview. The lifestyle questionnaire was created to research into the subjects’ preferences in accordance with 4 kinds of leather types, 5 kinds of grains, and 5 kinds of colors. After the authors’ statistical analysis of 206 copies of the effective questionnaires, the research results among every group showed that the favorites were Aniline Leather of leather types, smaller particles of grains, and high contrast colors, such as white and black. Further, the consumer groups against sofa leather could be divided into 5 difference ones. The taste of the elder subjects in "Appreciate Life" was similar to the overall preferences ; however, the taste of the junior subjects in "Single Learing" and "Youthful & Carefree" was unique and different from the overall preferences.

Abstract: The growing amount of waste electrical and electronic products has been a tough issue in many countries. Widely expressed public concern for the environment and increasingly stringent regulations have been putting pressure on related manufacturers, forcing them to produce and dispose products in an environmentally responsible manner. Thus, during the conception and development of products, emphasis is now being put on designing products for ease of recycling and disposal. This paper presents a mathematical programming model as a tool for identifying the best design plan for optimization of WEEPs reverse logistic cost among alternative schemes. The monetary factors in the model includes the costs of main activities during the whole product recycling process, which consists of transportation, inspection, clean, repair, disassembly, materials recovery and wastes disposal as well as the benefits derived from returned products to be reused and recovered and energy acquired from the solid wastes incineration. Based on the presented model, designers could figure out the best combination options in materials, structural layout and inter-part connections. Finally, different design plans for optical mouse are discussed as a case example to offer a better insight into the proposed model and product design methodology.

Abstract: Ergonomics and interior geometry are important validation contents in vehicle product development. In this paper, a fully adjustable physical mockup with the flexibility to install various interiors was developed, which can be used to validate the ergonomics and interiors for any target population and various passenger cars. By requirements analysis, target vehicle types and contents needed to be validated using this equipment were identified. Based on statistical analysis of the sizes of different passenger cars, the dimensions of basic structure and the adjustments ranges of main components were determined, as well as the main functions and structural requirements. Based on above analysis, reference fiducial marks system, and the positions and travels of adjustment devices were calculated. According to the validated concept design, considering the standards of section bars and machines, the main structure and adjustment devices of every component were designed and analyzed of their strength, stiffness and kinematics. Together with the manufacturer, the sub-systems of the mockup were produced, assembled and tested. The acceptance test showed that this mockup could simulate and present different passenger cars well as the design target, and could evaluate, modify and reevaluate various ergonomic problems and interior designs.

Abstract: As an automatic identification and data capture technology, RFID can greatly enhance the visibility of the supply chain and has a significant impact on its’ performance. However, because the investment of the technology is expensive and time-consuming, the application in supply chain cannot assure to make positive outputs. So it is important to fully understand the technology’s impact on the supply chain performances and take advantage of its potential benefits. For this purpose, this article analyzes and categorizes RFID’s benefits and the influence factors, and then setup a connection with supply chain performance. Subsequently, we propose a framework for evaluating the performance of RFID-enabled supply chain. Through the framework, we can comprehensively and clearly evaluate the performances of the RFID and make our decision more reasonable and suitable for the real.
