Abstract: By comparing the two different commercial pedestrian streets (the Queen Street Mall, Brisbane, Australia and the FuRong Street, JiNan, China) in three concepts: Tradition, Energy, Operation. Thinking over the protection and inheritance of traditional urban scene and characteristic of regional space during the reconstruction of traditional block.

Abstract: This paper presents the development and assessment of a liquid-level sensor using reflective long-period fiber grating (LPFG) technology. The LPFG was fabricated by the electrical arc discharge method and the liquid-level sensor consisted of five LPFGs in series with a reflective mirror (end) coated with silver by Tollen’s test. The experimental findings showed the sensor could be used to automatically monitor five liquid levels, such as 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 cm. The sensing system had at least 100-cm liquid-level measurement capacity. The reflective LPFGs-in-series sensor was able to successfully yield a comparable liquid-level sensing performance and hopefully could be used in the fields of civil and agronomy engineering applications such as pipes, channels, dams, and deep-ponding paddy fields.

Abstract: Besides the function of molten steel supply in casting process, tundish has a capability of decreasing the formation of macro-scale inclusions and promoting the flotation of the remaining inclusions. So, the metallurgy worker has been concentrating on to elevation product cleanness by improving flow field pattern of steel liquid and increasing inclusion floatation efficiency. In this study, a large-capacity and deep bath tundish for Heavy Steel Ingot with different arrangement was compared by mathematical simulation and water modeling. The results show that with flow control, the tundish has an important effect on the fluid flow pattern and inclusion removal.

Abstract: Hemp fiber has recently captured a significant interest in the science and engineering community because of its high specific strength and stiffness with an environmentally friendly feature. This paper reports a systematic study relating a specific surface treatment on hemp fiber with respect to the flexural strengths of the treated hemp fiber reinforced recycled polymeric composites. The flexural strength, strain, and modulus of rupture of the composite were tested on a constant rate of extension testing machine following ASTM standards. Surface morphologies of fiber and fracture surfaces of the composites were also observed using the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) technique.

Abstract: Beam-column connections of high-rise steel frames are usually welded, studies on seismic damages for nodes show that the existence of welding seam is the main reason which contributes to the brittle failure of nodes. This paper studies on the coming into being process of nodes, the deformation ability can be improved through changing welding order to reduce residual stresses for nodes. In the paper, numerical stimulations for nodes are conducted through finite element software. Distribution and peak value of residual stresses of beam-column connections are compared in accordance with different welding order. The analysis provides a theoretical basis for connection nodes in terms of utilizing their strength and ductility of steel.

Abstract: As the variable frequency technology was widely used in heating and air conditioning system, people pay more and more attentions to it. However, there are some misunderstandings of the applications of the variable frequency technology during the actual use. Some problems which should be marked in the applications of the variable frequency technology were summarized, which provides some reference for its further application in the future.

Abstract: Land-use and land-cover change (LUCC) is an important factor of global change. In this study, the LUCC of Liaoning Coastal Economic Zone, the typical area of urbanization in China, was simulated by applying CLUE-S model under the historical trend scenario and policy scenario two scenarios. Transfer matrix and landscape index were also applied to analyze the change of landscape pattern. The results show that, from 1988 to 2007, the area of construction land was considerably increased. However, the area of forest, water and farmland were greatly decreased. The results were mainly caused by the rapid growth of economic, population and accelerated urbanization. These changes have caused landscape fragmentation in this study area. In general, the trends of landscape changes under two scenarios were unsustainable in this area.

Abstract: To reduce the accident, a radar speed measuring and monitoring system based on DSP chip-TMS320F2812 is designed in this paper. Continuous wave radar is used to receive echoes which are reflected from moving vehicles and frequency spectrum is analyzed with FFT. And then, velocity is calculated with the Doppler effect formula. Finally, the velocity is uploaded to the monitoring center by RS-232 UART. An experimental platform is produced and do the experiment by this method, simulation and experimental data show that it is an effective way to improve the speed-measuring accuracy and reduce accident rates.

Abstract: In subtropical areas of China, air temperature and relative humidity were relatively high in summer, as well as the solar radiation. In the university campus, students are relatively concentrated and have more outdoor activities. Hot and humid weather conditions may cause students uncomfortable and even heat stroke. Therefore, the influences of landscape design on thermal environment should be taken into account in the process of campus planning. In this paper, the field measurement of outdoor air temperature, relative humidity, wind velocity, heat radiation and integrated hot environmental indicator namely wet bulb global temperature were carried out around the Dong Lake in South China University of Technology in typical summer days. The impacts of design methods of water, tree, grass and floor on thermal environment were analyzed.

Abstract: With the rapid development of industry and transportation, the awareness of environmental problems such as noise pollution and vibration pollution and so on, has led to an increasing interest in methods for noise and vibration isolation. The dynamic mechanical model for forging hammer foundation is analyzed firstly. Through the choice of the scheme of vibration isolation, one vibration isolation trench coupling the piles in rows was design. Grouting piles used as exterior protected structure for vibration isolation trench, which have a role of rigid vibration isolation. Soft material in-filled in the trench, which has a function of flexible isolation, can absorb the residual vibration energy penetrating through the piles in rows. It indicated by the site measurements that the surface waves should be hold back and diffracted effectively by the coupling effect of flexible isolation of the in-filled material and the rigid isolation of piles in rows.
