Abstract: The Finnish boating industry is currently facing various challenges that force it to rethink the traditional way of working. Growing manufacturing costs, competition from low labor cost countries as well as new regulations regarding styrene emissions are one of the major factors imposing a change on boat manufacturers. The article focuses on the analysis of Finnish boating industry situation and identification of possible development opportunities. The particular attention is put on lean manufacturing principles and its application in small and medium-sized companies that dominate the market. The aim is to propose a concept factory for boating industry-a factory that would put the lean thinking into practice. Only the most appropriate and promising concepts are proposed. The method for concepts selection is based on the analysis of the industry’s current situation examined with the help of in-depth interviews conducted in boating and rotational molding companies in Finland.

Abstract: In this paper, we determine the fuzzy control strategy of inverter air conditioner, the fuzzy control model structure, the neural network and fuzzy control technology, structural design of the fuzzy neural network controller as well as the neural network predictor FNNC NNP. Simulation results show that the fuzzy neural network controller can control the accuracy greatly improved the compressor, and the control system has strong adaptability to achieve a truly intelligent; model of the controller design and implementation of technology are mainly from the practical point of view, which is practical and feasible.

Abstract: Mixed model production is the practice of assembling different and distinct models in a line without changeovers with responding to sudden demand changes for a variety of models. In this paper, we specify sequence of models to minimize the conveyer stoppages. We assume our lines are fixed and we can not change the balance of the lines. When the condition of lines like setup cost, demand of each models change, it is important to specify the sequence for minimizing the conveyer stoppages without balancing the line again, because the main lines are fixed. We consider three objective functions, simultaneously: minimizing the variation in actual and required production capacity of the line, minimizing the objectives which increase the chance of conveyer stoppage including: a) minimizing the total setup time, b) minimizing the total production variation cost, and minimizing the total utility work cost. We use a new fuzzy programming for this problem; it can present us an estimator for nearness of conveyer stoppages. We study about sub lines and conveyer velocity and its affect on stoppages.

Abstract: In manufacturing industry the automated visual inspection system (AVIS) is a method to inspect, classify and detect defects of various products. In the past, the tasks of inspection are carrying out by humans, machines or both. In this paper, we account for an AVIS model to classify mechanical parts in production line. It comprises two parts: hardware and software. The model uses a web-camera attached to an adjustable stand to capture various group of metal part images. The main objective is to develop an intelligent inspection tool based on image processing and production rules. It computes both the area and circularity of mechanical shapes as the features and hence classifies them according to ten categories such as screws, nuts, and bolts at different sizes. The result shows that the accuracy is 91.5% for group and 98.25% for individual classification of mechanical parts subsequently.

Abstract: This paper presents path planning of UAVs for surveillance of an urban region. Firstly, the urban region is divided into areas of accessibility by triangulation. The area is accessible if the space above the area can accommodate the size and maneuverability of the UAVs. Thus a set of accessible areas within the region is generated to facilitate the safe flight path. Following this, a sequence of way points is generated in these areas at the centre of a line connecting the structures. The waypoints are interpolated using the Pythagorean Hodograph curves as they provide a smooth interpolation. As an initial phase of this research, path planning with single UAV in a randomly simulated urban region is presented.

Abstract: Fossil fuel is the main energy resources of the world. About 80-90% of its primary energy need to supply by oil, coal, natural gas, and oil shale [1]. These energy resources will also be of importance in the future but non-renewable and cause problems to the environment as a result of their relatively high amount of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and other environmentally harmful emissions. We are investigating to look for alternative energy resources which are clean, safe, and long-term reliable. Thermoelectricity is one of the renewable energy resources that has been widely investigated and is expected to be feasible in the near future. Moreover, it is a clean energy generation, since it can directly convert heat to electrical energy by using non-polluting thermoelectric devices. These are reasons for the growing interest in further research and development of the thermoelectric technology. The search for new thermoelectric materials is important that the transition metal oxides were interested such as p-type Ca3Co4O9 [2-7] and n-type CaMnO3 [8-12]. There have been synthesized using different techniques in the form of powder and bulk. However, the doped metals have been expected to be one of the candidates for good thermoelectric materials, including thermoelectric module consists of two or more materials of p-type and n-type [13-15]. Recently, the thermoelectric module is also being used as the thermoelectric generators, thermoelectric coolers, etc. [16-17].

Abstract: Laser Beam Cutting (LBC) being a complex cutting process needs a reliable model for prediction of the process performance. This research work presents a modeling study of LBC process. A hybrid approach of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Fuzzy Logic (FL) has been used for developing the Kerf width model. The developed Neuro Fuzzy model of Kerf width has also been compared with Response Surface Methodology (RSM) based model and it has been found that the values of Kerf width predicted by the Neuro Fuzzy Model are more closer to the experimental values.

Abstract: Benchmarking competitor products helps a company to identify opportunities to improve their product relative to their competitors. This allows a company to determine the basic requirements of a new product, and target potential areas for improvement, particularly within the automotive industry where there is considerable growth and competition. Automotive firms have been increasingly focusing on development processes. Reducing time to market and improving quality whilst minimising cost. Laser scanning technology enables companies to make design and engineering improvements through the ability to analyse a competitor’s design. A case study of this generic process will be presented in this paper. The results have revealed that a company can create significant value-added activity, reduce the need for physical prototype costs and time, improve quality in new product development introduction.

Abstract: Laser light beam transmit efficiency and accuracy in atmosphere channel is important parts in space laser communication system. The atmosphere channel effects to laser light beam mainly have two aspects, atmospheric attenuation and atmospheric turbulence. After doing related experiments, we figure that the speed of wind has little effect to atmospheric turbulence and the altitude is portional to structure parameter. And bad weather has much influence with energy transmission efficiency. In practical situation, we should consider two ways working at the same time refer to our conclusions.

Abstract: In order to deeply study the imbibition mechanism of conglomerate reservoir, the law that fluid flows in different sizes of pores in the process of imbibition was researched by nuclear magnetic resonance. First, the conglomerate core was saturated by the simulated formation water, and then was saturated by polyfluoroethylene oil to form the irreducible water. During the experiment of imbibition, several time points were selected and the conglomerate core was tested by NMR. According to the relaxation time T2, pores were divided into large, middle and small three size ranges. As the imbibition time increases, the available rate of middle and small pores increase faster than large pores. The available rate of middle and small pores both exceed 50%, but the one of large pores is lower than 35%. The difference of mechanism between imbibition and waterflooding is explained by their NMR test results.
